Under the patronage of the Dean of the Administrative Technical College/Kufa, Assistant Professor Dr. Dhurgham Abdul Al-Abdali, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the college organized a panel discussion as part of qualitative and educational programs aimed at raising women’s awareness about the importance and necessity of participation in elections and voting, in order to create a future generation of female voters. The event was titled “The Impact of Contemporary Political Issues on Women’s Role and Electoral Rights”, and was delivered by Assistant Professor Ahmed Raad Mohammed, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration Technologies, on August 18, 2025.The session addressed the importance of women’s political participation as one of the main pillars in building fair democratic societies, where their electoral rights represent a key means to voice their opinions and contribute to shaping public policies. However, contemporary political issues—with their internal and external challenges and crises—cast shadows on women’s status in political life and directly or indirectly affect the exercise of their electoral rights. The discussion also touched on major contemporary political issues impacting women, including: internal conflicts and wars, democratic transitions and political reforms, the rise of extremist ideological and political movements, as well as globalization and the influence of international organizations. The session highlighted mechanisms to enhance women’s roles and electoral rights in light of these political issues, such as:Developing laws and legislation.Electoral education and awareness through media campaigns and training programs targeting women.Empowering women economically and socially. In conclusion, the lecturer emphasized that the impact of contemporary political issues on women’s role and electoral rights is twofold: it may either present an opportunity for their advancement and empowerment or become an obstacle to exercising their rights. Hence, building sustainable political awareness, coupled with legislative and institutional reforms, is the best way to ensure an active role for women in political life and to consolidate their participation in decision-making.
